Look What You All Did!

For those of you who like numbers, you are going to love the new Mary’s Books book totals.  As of today, we have collected 2,401 books just since February 2012.  And, we have collected 9,695 books TOTAL since Mary’s Books began in 2010.  These numbers are amazing to our family who thought that maybe we would collect 100 books.  Never did we dream that we would be donating books by the thousands and expanding Mary’s Books beyond the PICU at The Children’s Hospital.  We are so thankful and excited to share all of these wonderful books with children and families in our community.  Just the other day I called the Ronald McDonald House and asked them if they were ready for more books and the volunteer said “Yes Please!”  We dropped off 1,000 books at the same Ronald McDonald House in December and they are low already so we will happily replenish their book shelves.  Saying that, there will always be a need for books so we will continue to collect them and distribute them as these 2 facilities need them.  Thank you, again, for helping our family keep our sweet Mary alive through Mary’s Books.

Local Business Supports Mary’s Books….AGAIN!

Two years ago, an employee at ANB Bank was reading an article written about Mary’s Books in the Denver Post.  After reading about how we were collecting books for The Children’s Hospital, he suggested that his own children go to their book shelves and donate some of their books to our cause.  But, it didn’t stop there.  At a board meeting the following Monday morning, this same person suggested to his bank employees that they join our efforts to make sure our local Children’s Hospital never needs for books again.  That year they donated hundreds of books in Mary’s honor.  This year, ANB Bank asked if they could donate more books and we of course said yes!  We picked up 113 more books from them a few days ago.  It is wonderful to see our local businesses jump on board with us and support the children and families in our area.  So, if you’re looking for a new bank I an recommend ANB without hesitation because I know they care about our community…and they give out dog treats!

CO Asthma & Allergy Center

We have had an amazing 2012 Mary’s Book Drive.  Not only did our friends, family, neighbors, local churches and strangers donate, but local business owners donated as well.  As a business owner you can decide what causes you wish to support, if any at all.  Colorado Asthma & Allergy Center didn’t just donate books, they collected books at all of their offices around Denver.  And, the sweet part about receiving 315 books from them is that it wasn’t just employees donating, it was their patients donating as well.  I want to say a special thank you to everyone who not only works at CO Asthma & Allergy Center but thank you to the people who receive care by them as well.

Mary’s Books Update

It’s been another busy week for counting and putting ladybug stickers on books.  Our new 2012 total is 1,431 books!  Amazing!  The pastor at Elizabeth United Methodist Church challenged the congregation to collect 100 books and they passed that goal by collecting an impressive 323 books.  We had so much fun going through all of these books and didn’t realize that there are so many Walt Disney stories.  It took us awhile to count them up because many we had never read or seen before.  Thank you Kristen Crookshanks for organizing a Mary’s Books book drive at your church and helping us give back to a place that is so close to our heart.

Cochlear Americas partners with Mary’s Books!

A few years ago I was employed by Cochlear Americas.  I stopped working there in 2007 when I was put on bedrest with triplets.  After leaving, there were many people at Cochlear who kept in touch during my trying pregnancy and loss inutero.  I remained connected after the birth of Mary & Emma but that all stopped after the loss of Mary…not because of them but because of me!  When we began Mary’s Books in 2010, I was humbled by so many of the people I worked with who sent us books and supported us giving back to The Children’s Hospital.  And, this year at Cochlear is no different.  We have collected an impressive 323 books from Cochlear Americas!  I am so thankful to the folks at this company that after all of these years they continue to reach out graciously and support our family.  Thank you to all of you at Cochlear!

Bunco with a purpose…

Want to participate in our Mary’s Books book drive but don’t know how?  Here’s a great idea – organize a Bunco party with a purpose.  That is exactly what my friend Amy is doing.  She invited a group of women to come to her house, with their $5 for Bunco, and asked that they also bring a gently used or new book for Mary’s Books.  This is a great way to have a fun evening while supporting a great cause.  Thank You Amy!
